3 Reasons To Go With A Diesel Car For Your Next Vehicle

Posted on

When you think of the word diesel, images of big trucks hauling massive payloads down the highway probably come to mind. But today, engines that run on diesel fuel are manufactured by plenty of big name car companies. Diesel passenger cars and even SUVs are available for those interested. If you are in the market for a new vehicle, it might worth your time to at least look into diesel as a potential option. Here are three benefits that cars running on diesel fuel can provide.

Power

Diesel fuel provides more power or torque to the engine than unleaded. That's one of the reasons why it's so popular with trucks that need to haul huge loads across the country. Extra torque and/or horsepower translates to extra towing power. If you own or plan on buying a boat, a camper or something else that you will sometimes want to tow behind you, a diesel car can help make your life a little bit easier.

Efficiency

Diesel engines are more efficient at burning fuel than the more traditional options. Diesel fuel is also more energy dense than gasoline. You may pay more for diesel fuel at the pump but you'll also be making fewer trips to the gas station thanks to the better gas mileage. You'll likely find that the greater fuel efficiency makes up for the cost difference at the pump.

Durability and Longevity

Diesel engines have longer lifespans than gasoline engines and are known for being far more durable. The exact results will vary on a case by case basis but in general, diesel engines are usually expected to last for hundreds of thousands of miles longer than a gasoline engine would under similar conditions.  Diesel engines have fewer moving parts than gasoline engines, meaning there are less things that could break and need to be repaired. For example, diesel engines do not have spark plugs or distributors, meaning that ignition tune-ups are not needed.

You have multiple options when buying a new or used vehicle today, ranging from gasoline to diesel and even electric. Diesel fuel has come a long way in recent years and is now more efficient than it's ever been. Diesel fuel will also provide you with more power off the line, great for car owners who need to tow a boat or a trailer behind them. Diesel engines will also likely require fewer repairs over time and in most situations should live longer than a gasoline engine submitted to the same conditions.
