Properly Prepare For A Propane Delivery

Posted on

If you have recently moved into a home that uses propane for heating, it is important to have the tank filled before winter starts to ensure that you have enough propane to get through the winter. Having the propane filled during the end of summer will save you money because the cost of propane goes up at the beginning of winter because of high demand. If you plan to have your propane tank filled in the near future, use the following guide to properly prepare for the company that comes to fill the tank.

Clear a Route

The truck that carries the propane is often quite large. While there is a hose that goes from the truck to the propane tank, it is only so long. You need to be sure that the technician delivering the propane is able to get the truck as close to the tank as possible to ensure that he or she is able to easily fill the tank. Move all cars from your driveway to make sure the driver can get where he or she needs to be.

Secure Your Dogs

If you have dogs in your yard, be sure to secure them before the technician comes to your property. He or she will have to get out of the truck and secure the adapter on the hose to the propane tank. You need to be sure that the dog does not attack or bother the technician while he or she is doing their job.

Pay in Full

Most propane companies send you a bill for the delivery a few days after it has been delivered. You will not be able to pay for the propane in installment payments over an extended period of time. If you are present when the technician comes to fill the tank, you can ask him or her how much propane is missing from the tank and how much it will cost to fill it before the job is actually done. This allows you to opt for only having the tank filled a portion of the way if you are short on money at the moment and need propane right away.

Knowing these factors is important to ensure that you are able to easily get the propane you need for winter. Most technicians can fill a tank within a matter of just a few minutes if they can easily back their truck up to the tank.
